Working with the Forestry Commission to develop a 15 years Woodland plan. The plan will be published as soon as it is complete.
On the 12/03/2020 I met with John Stafford from the forestry commission to discuss our plans and ideas and to review our ways of working so far this year.
His response was overwhelmingly positive to everything we had achieved so far. We talked at length about the history, passion and people involved up to this point and talked about how we would look to protect the woods for generations to come.
He is more than happy to help and guide us with those plans.
We also discovered on the walk, a charcoal pit ! which needs further investigation.
We discussed tree planting and our new saplings arriving in November.
We did, however, discuss ivy cutting and he did ask this practice to cease immediately as there is no evidence that it causes trees any issues at all,but does provide another habitat for wildlife (this will be included in the plan)
Coppicing the chestnut is our next BIG challenge and he has recommended at least 1/2 acre each year.
Our next target is to complete the 15 plan application and gain a 10 year felling license
